Van Gogh Art

We have been studying the famous artist Van Gogh.
We have been looking at all of the paintings that he created.
We created a list of our personal favourites, and then we chose one that we would like to have a turn at re-creating.
We were able to use the chromebooks to zoom in very closely to that art work, and we could see how he had make brush strokes and we could try to do the same in our own painting.
We were only given blue, yellow, red, white and black paint, so we had to mix the colours together to make the colours that we needed.
We had so much fun doing these paintings and we are very proud of our work.

Book Review - The City of Ember

The City of Ember is written by Jeanne DuPrau.
This is the story of two 12 year old friends who live in the City of Ember. Their names are Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow.
They live in a city that was built by the 'builders' which was to help the human race survive. Unfortunately, the city has become so old that the electric system and the lights are beginning to fail. Doon was very worried about the future of the city.
Lina's baby sister, Poppy, found a very important piece of paper that seemed to be instructions of some sort, but she chewed on the paper, which made them almost impossible to read.
This is an excellent story for children aged 7 years old up, and even adults have loved this book. When it is read aloud, you just want to keep on listening to find out what is going to happen next.

"When we got to the last page, we just wanted to start reading the next book in the series" - Aria, Ava, Floyd, Archie, Angus and Nick.
"I really like how this story ended," Kade, Lochie and Logan
"We liked when they discovered movable light," Caitlyn and Luca.
"I liked the part when Poppy when found the important piece of paper." - Olive
"I liked it when they were successful following the instructions" - Emily
"I liked it when they dropped the letter and it landed on the street." - Katie
"I liked it when they found the diary" - Amelia
"I liked assignment day when Lina and Doon got their jobs" - Grace
"I was worried when Lina was chased by the guards." - Madison
"It was wonderful to have students hanging on every word and desperate to hear the story each day." - Mrs May

Fun with Fractions

We have been learning to make fractions and find fractions of a set.
Today we used play-dough to help us visualise halves and quarters.
Then we used counters to see how to find a fraction of a set.
It was a really helpful way to learn our fractions.
It certainly helped us to understand better.
There was lots of great learning and discussion going on.
 We helped to teach other.
And we all managed to have great success.
Who knew maths could be so much fun?!

Dance Night video and photos

On the last Thursday of term we held our school Dance night. This year we danced to a really cool song that we usually like to sing. It was Footloose. We started off with only three kids on stage and the rest of us were out among the audience. We jumped up from our spot and started to dance, like they do in a flash mob.

Here is a video of our dance and some of the photos that were taken of us.
