Caitlyn's sandpit volcano

Today for her "How to..." morning talk Caitlyn showed us how to make a volcano in the sandpit.
She started with a drink bottle 3/4 filled with warm water.
Then she added a squirt of dish liquid into it.
Then she added two teaspoons of baking soda.
Then she added pink food colouring to 1 cup of white vinegar.
The final step was to pour this mixture into the drink bottle.
It was a really cool morning talk.

Symmetrical bugs art for Maths

We have been studying geometry in Maths, so we decided to make some brightly coloured symmetrical bugs.
We began by drawing one side of our bug with pencil.
Then we had to draw over the top of the pencil with black pastel. We had to press hard to make it thick.
When that weas done we folded the paper in half and pressed down carefully with our hand. We had to rub the pastel onto the other side of the paper.
This created the symmetrical other side of our bug.
Then we had to go over the faint outline of pastel with the black pastel again to create a nice dark black outline for our symmetrical bug.
Once we had done that it was time to add colour to our bugs using brightly coloured pastels.
We had to be sure to use symmetrical patterns and colours too, which took lots of concentration.
When we were finished colouring our bug we use dye to fill in the back ground.
We tried to use a colour dye that we hadn't used in our bug.

We had so much fun creating this art work. We hope you really like them

Room 4 Create a vegetable garden

Room 4 have been studying "Growing Good Food"
At the start of the term we planted seeds in our classroom and we have been watering them, putting them in the sun and watching them grow ever since.
Today, we decided that they were getting too big and that it was time for them to be planted in a garden outside.
Before we could plant our vegetables we have to make a garden.
There was a big pile of top soil, so we got the shovels and the wheel barrows and we started digging.
It was hard work, and it was hot outside in the sun, but with lots of us working together we soon had our garden sorted.

We filled up an old tractor tyre for the garden.

Once the garden was filled with top soil and compost it was time to plant the vegetables.
Our garden has carrots, lettuces, radishes, and broccoli.

We also planted some tomato plants in some small tyres near the fence so that they could grow up the fence.
We are really proud of our garden, and we hope that it "GROWS GOOD FOOD!"
(Some of us were away getting the water to water our plants when this photo was taken.)

SADD - Dress your door competition

This year's theme for the 'Dress you door competition' was "Don't be a distracted driver."
Room 4 brainstormed all of the things that can be a distraction to drivers and then we coloured pictures to add to a mural on our door.
We didn't win, but we were really proud of our finished door.
