Powhiri to welcome the Year 7's to Room 4

Today was very exciting in Room 4 as we got to put all of our knowledge about powhiri into practice by being the tangata whenua and welcoming the Year 7 students from Room 6 into our classroom.  Check out what happened....

We waited for the Year 7's to arrive.

Kuia Lanie did the karanga to call the manuhiri onto our marae

Our koroua Toby did a whaikorero on our behalf, as our chief,
welcoming the Year 7's to Room 4.

We sang 'Tutira mai nga iwi' to support Toby's speech 

The visitor's speaker, Jack, then did his mihi and thanked us
for welcoming them to our marae.

The Year 7's all sang in support of Jack's speech

After the koha was presented by Blaize it was time for us all to hongi

Our powhiri finished with kai time.

It was great to share our learning space and experience with another class.  Thanks for coming over Year 7's.
