Symmetrical bugs art for Maths

We have been studying geometry in Maths, so we decided to make some brightly coloured symmetrical bugs.
We began by drawing one side of our bug with pencil.
Then we had to draw over the top of the pencil with black pastel. We had to press hard to make it thick.
When that weas done we folded the paper in half and pressed down carefully with our hand. We had to rub the pastel onto the other side of the paper.
This created the symmetrical other side of our bug.
Then we had to go over the faint outline of pastel with the black pastel again to create a nice dark black outline for our symmetrical bug.
Once we had done that it was time to add colour to our bugs using brightly coloured pastels.
We had to be sure to use symmetrical patterns and colours too, which took lots of concentration.
When we were finished colouring our bug we use dye to fill in the back ground.
We tried to use a colour dye that we hadn't used in our bug.

We had so much fun creating this art work. We hope you really like them

  1. What exciting, colourful art Room 4. Olive, I would love to have them all on my fridge door - but they wouldn't all fit!
