Action on the construction site

Many of the students in Room 4 were quite distracted by the going's on out the classroom window. There was a lot of action at the construction site of the new swimming pool this morning. So rather than try to carry on with what we were doing, we decided to go and investigate closely, and we came back to write about it. Here is what the children saw. 

Broom, broom went the crane, moving the big blocks of concrete. It was very noisy. All the workmen were drilling in the big hole of concrete. There was orange tape around the pool to stop the workmen from falling in. That's good! - Shannon

The Lawrence pool is being built. The crane is moving a lot. It is carrying blocks of concrete walls. The walls have big nails on the back of them. The is a massive hole in the ground. The crane had ropes and pulleys. The workmen wear hard hats and hi-viz vests. There was orange tape around the pool. The truck was carrying walls for the pool. - Madison

Lawrence pool is being made. We went down there. We saw a crane. It is massive. We heard drilling. All of a sudden the crane started moving and it was amazing. There was orange tape around the pool and there were massive concrete walls. It was one massive hole in the ground. We saw big concrete cubes and a truck carrying walls for the pool. - Caitlyn

Chains, ropes and pulleys. Workmen wore hard hats and hi-viz vests. The new pool is being built. - Amelia

The workmen were drilling holes. We heard it. It wasn't that loud. At lunch time the crane was moving. It didn't have anything on it. We saw a tractor in front of us but it was parked up. It had a hammer thing on it. The hammer thing was on the side so if you lifted it you would drop it. The workers had these kind of jackets called a hi-viz vest. - Clifton

Drills going 'd,d,d,d,d,d,d,d.' Hammers hammering. The crane is doing lots of work, like picking up blocks of concrete. The men have to wear hi-viz vests and hard hats. The hard hats are made to protect the worker's heads. The hi-viz is so they don't get hit by a vehicle. The is also a sign on the fence that says 'Keep Out'. It says that because it is a construction site. - Regan

I saw lots of dirt piles. Cranes can stretch really far. Cranes get hooked up with chains, ropes and pulleys. Workmen have to wear hard hats and hi-viz vests. - Logan

Piles of dirt are moving to the ground. People are building the pool. I saw the crane moving the concrete. They were hanging the insides so it does not move when you jump in the pool. They wear bright tops so they don't get hit by the crane when the crane is moving. - Floyd

There is a massive hole in the ground and it is going to be the swimming pool. There is an enormous crane. The men are all wearing vests because they might get ran over in the pool. There is a deep end and a shallow end. The sign on the fence says 'Keep Out' because you could get run over. - Kade

"Keep going. Keep going...STOP! Okay, lift it up. We need to put it in place." The crane is lifting the bottom of the pool off the truck. The people need to wear safety helmets and bright orange vests. - William

The big sun glistens as it hits the crane. People are working like tiny little ants. You're probably wondering who I am. I'm Bella the bluebird and I am flying over a big construction site. As I keep on watching more diggers come and then they start to put the big heavy concrete blocks in and they start to hammer. As I swoop down to get a closer look the crane turns my way. Maybe this is not the safest place for a bird to be. - Anna

Here, at Lawrence Area School, the new pool is being built. We have seen the workmen working their hardest on our pool. They are wearing their hi-viz vests and hard hats. We saw the crane lifting the large cement walls. There were hammering and drilling noises. There was a very big hole in the ground that was where the pool will be. There were chains going clickety-clack and squeaking pulleys. There were large cubes for the outside of the pool. There were large piles of dirt. Some people think that the pool will be finished in April bit I think it will be finished in May. - Jayme-Leigh

There is a new pool in town. At school we went to see the crane. It was making the walls. Men were drilling and hammering the walls. Men were just standing on the ground. - Seth

Drill, drill, drill. Piles of dirt, hard yellow hats and a massive tall crane popping out from over the trees. 'Ahhh!' I screamed when I saw it move. I thought it was going to come straight for me. There were chains, ropes and pulleys hanging off it. There was a big hole in the ground with concrete walls around the giant hole. A ruck was carrying walls for the pool. - Arnika

Ropes, pulleys, the crane is in action. The workmen are working hard. They are drill, they're hammering. I can see a massive pile of dirt and orange tape around the pool so that they don't fall in. - Aaron

Cranes. I see hard hats and a truck carrying walls. I saw a lot of workmen. The pool was very deep. - Oakley

Chains, ropes and pulleys are all over the crane. Workmen with hard hats and hi-viz vests are busy hammering and drilling. There were piles of dirt and there was orange tape around the pool so the men don't fall in. - Lochie 

Hammering and drilling. Work has started at the pool. There was a huge crane lifting big concrete blocks. I could see some workmen with hard heavy helmets on. The crane was also moving humungous concrete walls because the workmen were trying to put the concrete walls in today. The men were wearing hi-viz vests so the person in the crane could see them. At lunch time some people saw the crane move some more concrete walls. Sometimes it was very noisy but it was mostly quiet. - Imogen

Big cranes hanging down, hanging on it are big chains, ropes and pulleys. Workmen wearing hard hats to protect their heads. There hats are bright hi-lighter yellow. They wear hi-viz vests, the colour was orange. There were huge drills drilling the ground and the sound of hammers banging against the concrete. There were big piles of dirt in front of the fence. There was also orange tape around the edge of the pool so no one falls in. There were massive concrete walls for the sides. There was a massive hole in the ground. That's why there was orange tape around the edge beside the pool. There were big blocks of concrete on the edge. - Isla

Workmen, hard hats, hi-viz vests, crane, chains, ropes and pulleys. There was lots of hammering and drilling. There was orange tape around the pool. I can see massive concrete walls and a massive hole in the ground. There were big concrete cubes. The truck was carrying walls for the pool. There were big piles of dirt. The hole is very big. They are good workmen. - Luca

Lawrence is getting a new pool. The crane has chains and ropes on it. There are workmen working really hard to make the Lawrence pool. There is lots of noise, like hammering and drilling. They have to dig a big hole so that is where the pool is going to be. The pool is going to be warm. - Charlotte
