Bad Jelly The Witch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mep9TlGDno4

This morning the 'Smarties' reading group were reading a story called 'When Grandpa was young." It talked about a time when Grandpa and his family used to sit around listening to the radio as their indoor entertainment because televisions and computers were not invented.

Mrs May remembers a time when she was a little girl and she used to wake up on a Sunday morning and listen to a radio show that had children's stories for 1 hour. Her favourite story was 'Bad Jelly the Witch.' You can listen to the story by clicking on the picture above.

Waitahuna Swimming Carnnival

Waitahuna Swimming Carnival on PhotoPeach

Clapping, cheering, this is what we did at the Waitahuna pool. At the start I got a sausage then we went to the playground. I climbed the tree with Shannon. I got really high up the line. You have to be 7 or older to climb the tree so we did. Then we walked the high tight-rope. I was not scared. Then it was time to go swimming. ‘Bummer,’ we had to go in last but we got to swim first. ‘Yay.’ We  got into the pool and first we did the ping pong ball race to the other side of the pool. Then we did underwater swimming. You had to pick up the stick and swim to the other side of the pool. Then we went to the shallow end of the pool and did a width streamline. Then we did kicking on our back with the board. Then we did a whole length of the pool, freestyle. Then we were done and we got out and stood on the step and everyone clapped and after that we got a hot chocolate. It was yummy. Then we watched the boys swim and everyone else. My favourite thing of the day was swimming lengths of the pool. - Caitlyn

People were yelling in the van on the way to Waitahuna. The Waitahuna swimming was awesome. I played on the playground. It was cool because the was a sand pit and a big, big pool. We had a sausage sizzle and a hot chocolate and my favourite thing of the day was the hot chocolate and playing on the playground. There were swimming races like back stroke and a whole length of freestyle. I did the whole length of freestyle. My favourite thing of the day was playing on the playground. - Seth

People were laughing, cheering and clapping on Thursday at the Waitahuna swimming carnival. There was an egg and spoon race in the pool. I went in the freestyle race across the pool one time. The stream line race was great for me because I came 5th in the race and we did a flutterboard race. We had sausages at lunch and we played in the playground. I played on the bungy rope but I was too scared to go to the end because it got high and I could fall down and hit the ground and break my arm. I heard some boy had broken his arm one day and I knew that because it wobbled and shook. My great thing about the day was the swimming. - Floyd.

Last week we went to the Waitahuna pool for the swimming carnival. The pool was 25 degrees. It is warmer than the Lawrence pool. We were second to hop in the pool First we did the egg and spoon race. I dropped my egg 3 times. I swam a whole length of free style. Freestyle was my best. I had to stop 2 times. The people were clapping and cheering. I had a milo and it was good. It had handles on it. At lunch time we played in the sand pit. I had the dozer. Logan had the loader. Lochie and I had the dozers. The sand pit is clean. It has a fence around it. - Kade

Clapping, kicking splashing, and yelling it is our turn now. When we went  to Waitahuna we got  a sausage sizzle. It was good. We went to play in the playground and we went on  the monkey bars and on the rope. Then we went swimming.  We did the egg and spoon race. We did backstroke and I did a length, which was my best. The one I liked was backstroke. We go a milo and then we got to play in the playground again. - Luca

Yippee. We went on Thursday to the  Waitahuna swimming sports. At lunch I had a sausage sizzle. Before the swimming races I played in the playground. At the swimming races my favourite swimming race was the stream-line. After, I had a milo. - Lochie

Splashes, cheering, kicking, going underwater, racing, streamline gliding on my back. I had a great hot milo. We did a length of pool. It was fun. I saw Kade and Lochie. Mum came and watched me. I saw Cody. He was kicking the ball at the end. I saw two puppies. - Logan

Bashing through me! I saw people everywhere. I was nervous. This is all a part of the Waitahuna swimming carnival last Thursday. We went before lunch and we went in the school van with Mrs Crawford. We had a sausage with bread and sauce. There was a little park that we played in. At the school pool there was an egg and spoon race. We had to pick objects up from the bottom of the pool. I did a whole length of back stroke. It was a lot of fun. I had a milo. My milo was my favourite thing. - Amethyst

"3, 2. 1....GO!" said Mrs Blackmore for the races. My very favourite event was the egg and spoon race. I dropped my egg 2 times. It was frustrating. - Madison

Splashing, diving, kicking, splashing - the Waitahuna swimming sports is on. I zoomed to the side and back in the egg and spoon race. I came second. In the underwater race I came first. - Amelia

Amazing Team

Something we are really proud of in Room 4 is the wonderful feeling of teamwork and friendship. We always look out for each other and make sure that we are happy and able to learn successfully. We recognise that we are all a bit different and that is what makes us special. We all also realise that it is these differences that make us such an amazing team.

Room 4 is a very special place to come each day, we all feel special and we all love to learn.

How to stay informed at LAS

Year 4's at Senior Swimming Sports

On Friday the Year 4's were competed in the senior school swimming sports. For most of us, it was our first time swimming in this event so we were pretty nervous. Check out the photos of us...there are heaps!
The first race of the day - Mr Auld gives everyone the instructions about how things will work
And now for our backstroke lengths.

After lunch it was time for all of our width races. We were so excited to get started!

The girls were first - 1 width freestyle.

And now for the boys - 1 width freestyle.

And then it was time for 1 width back stroke.

and then the boys!

Then it was 1 width flutter board.

The girls watch on to see who wins.
Mrs Kenny popped down with her class and some of our Year 3's to watch the afternoons events.
Look at everyone lining up to swim a 1 length flutter board race.
At the end of the day there was a fun relay event where Read vs Woods. Each team had to fill do a length of the pool in the canoe to retrieve a house member. They had to keep going until their kayak sunk.

It was a lot of fun, and there was a lot of shouting!

Read won after the Woods kayaked tipped over and spilled all of their team into the pool.
We had such a fun day at the swimming sports!
