Swarm of the bees

What do you do when you can't go outside because there are 20,000 bees in the tree?
You write about it of course!

I was eating my lunch with Emily, Grace, Skye, Issy and Livvy under a shady tree when, all of a sudden like the flick of a switch, everyone was screaming and shouting. It had all gone from calm to chaos! I wondered what was going on. I heard people shouting
“BEES! BEES!” shouted KC and Ava. I looked around and saw a swarm of bees in front of me. I ran into the class with the rest of the kids like a group of angry dogs because Mrs May shouted, “ INTO YOUR CLASS NOW!!!!”. We had to go into lockdown. Mrs May tried to call Dana but he didn’t pick up. Then Mrs May called Megan and asked her to call Dana.
When Dana got to school we stayed inside until he had gotten rid of most of the bees. Dana thought there were around 20,000 bees. Meanwhile, inside the classroom people were looking out the window and the other’s that were scared didn’t want to look. I saw Dana smoke the Queen bee and more bees followed. Then Dana left, what an exciting event!!!

Addy, Hannah, Issy, Ava and l were sitting by a tree and we thought that some bees were flies but when I put my glasses on, I saw that they had yellow on them. Ava and I yelled “BEES!” and some people were screaming as loud as they could. Someone told Mrs May and then we had to go inside just in case we might get stung. Then we shut the door as fast as we could. We were allowed to have free time. We saw Dana come and he dropped the queen bee into the box and then he had this smoker. The bees were all over the box because where  the queen bee goes they go. The bees were swarming like a tornado.

I was just sitting with my friends, eating lunch. We went to put our lunch away but just then a big group of girls came in through the doors screaming. I ran through the crowd of girls and I asked Hannah all my questions.
“What's going on? What’s all this screaming about?”
“Bees!” was my only answer. The whole classroom felt like it had just turned into a haunted house because so many people were terrified. I pushed through the crowd to get to the window where I saw a HUUUGE swarm of bees crowding a nearby tree. They looked like a tornado. I really, really wanted to see them close up but I knew they would sting me. Everyone was still screaming like crazy so I decided I’d just get some headphones and play a game instead.  Mrs May finally came into the class and she called Dana. He arrived a while later in his truck. We all raced to the window to watch. He had to cut the branch to get the hive off the tree. It fell into a box and bees flooded out of the hive. We spent the rest of lunchtime inside.

I was just eating my food with Livvy, Skye, Aria and Emily and we were just having a talk about our lines for the play but then we heard screaming. Ava ran over shouting
“BEES! BEES! RUN!!!!!!!” I was really scared and I screamed as I ran into the class. Everyone was like a herd of sheep. I was running like a wild animal. I was looking at the bees and they looked like a swirling tornado.
We all went in the class so we couldn't get stung. Mrs May was trying to call Dana but he didn’t pick up so she called Megan. She said that she would get a hold of him.
He came. I was so excited that he was here. He couldn’t get the bee hive so he got the snippers to cut the branch. He got this special bucket. He cut the branch and some of  the bees slipped in. Some bees went in the bucket. Dana closed the lid. All the bees were surrounding it.

I was sitting eating lunch with Ava ,Kc, Issy and Hannah. It was a normal calm Tuesday. Then we noticed a huge big tornado of bees.  KC and Ava screamed as loud as they could then Issy, Hannah and I all screamed. We were all screaming. Then we  all yelled out as loud as we could
“Bees! Bees! Bees!” then it was chaos, to the classrooms we went.
Then Dana came to get the bees. When he put them in the box it was like pouring sand. I was looking out the window, watching.  I was terrified but it was a good experiment to watch and we got free time, that was fun.
By Addy

I was sitting under a tree with Issy, KC, Hannah, and Addy. We were talking about fitness.
Suddenly a big swarm of bees flew around like hungry birds. KC and I were screaming our heads off we ran and ran and we called out
“BEES! BEES!” All around us, was te sound of  ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ .
Room 1, 3 and 4 were screaming. Tt was chaos and everybody was running and yelling. We all ran into our classrooms. The bees were flying wildly like a tornado. Everybody was thanking KC and I for warning them and we were terrified. Mrs May called Dana but he didn't pick up and then she rang Megan. She was going to call Dana. Everyone was loud and a little bit mad.
Then Dana turned up and we watched him smoke the bees. It was a fun experiment. Issy said they might be hornets bees. We were sitting and standing on the desks and chairs. It was AMAZING to watch!!!
By Ava

I was eating my lunch, chatting to my friends, just being casual. I put my lunchbox away and went into the classroom. EVERYONE was screaming and scrambling to get to the door saying
“BEES! BEES! BEES!” I was quite confused but then I realised what everyone was screaming about, a bee hive! I looked out the window and saw a gigantic swarm of 20 thousand bees dashing around in every direction! When everyone was screaming Mrs May was ringing up Dana because he was a bee-keeper.
Suddenly a car with lots of gear pulled up by the tree where the bees were. Everyone was watching Dana, he started putting on his bee safety uniform. Then he got a white box out of the truck and put it next to the bees. He held the box right under the bees and then he scraped them of a branch. The bees fell into the white box following the queen bee. It looked like a tonne of sand flowing out of a tree. All of the painful bees were finally gone but Dana left the box there just in case.

I was casually, normally eating lunch with my friends. Brrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnngggggggg went the bell. I ran up onto the playground excitedly, when a bee ( or a fly or a hornet or a wasp I really dunno) flew up to me. I shrugged, turned around and heard a scream. ‘’What the-???’’ Suddenly I noticed it . IT WAS A SWARM OF BLOOD SUCKING KILLER GIANT HORNETS !!!!!!!!!!!!,DUN , DUN, DUUUUN. Everyone scrambled into the classroom, yelling and shoving to get in. I quickly ran in. Once we were all inside we watched the Beeman.  The Beeman quickly tried to handle the Hornets. Suddenly they stung him and he fell down dead, exactly like he had drunk too much beer on a Saturday night. All of a sudden a herd of police cars quickly drifted into the school. All the cops got out of their cars and pointed their guns at the bees. Before they could shoot, the Hornets attacked!!!. Policeman were dead in every direction. Then I realised it was 7:29. Then it struck 7:30. The hornets suddenly stopped flying and fell to the ground. Suddenly I realised what I had to do . I quickly ran out of the classroom and scooped up the bees in a small box. I ran to another classroom and chucked the bees in there. I locked the doors and ran out. I told everyone what I did to the bees.
IT WAS A BATTLE BETWEEN HUMAN AND BEE AND WE HAD WON!!!!

There I was, just sitting there when all of a sudden I heard something. A strange buzzing sound? I turned around and noticed something strange. People were sprinting to get as far away as possible from a small tree. They were shoving and pushing like crazy, scrambling for the door to their classrooms. Lots were confused, most were scared.I didn’t get how everyone could be so scared of one little bee.
Then I saw it. It was a  giant swarm of bees, not a tiny little bee. It looked like there could have been 10,000 there. I quickly followed everyone else inside. It was total chaos.
When Dana finally came, in his truck full of gear, the bees were going crazy. They were swarming around him like they were getting ready to eat him.
He slowly placed a small white box  on the ground then he tried to pull the hive down but it was too stable so he got some big clippers and cut the branch. There were about 20,000 bees in the hive. They poured out into the box like sand. He found the queen bee and put her in the box then closed it. All the bees were swarming the box because they follow the queen wherever she goes. Dana left the box with her in it there overnight just in case of another lockdown. I will never forget this occasion.

As the 10 minutes  were  about to end, we were about to put, our lunchboxes away and then a swarm of hornets appeared out of the blue.  Everyone was frantically trying to get into the class. People were screaming and running away. It looked like a devil storm . Half a metre long they were. They swarmed out of the hive  and formed into a giant sword. Then charged towards the classroom and sliced it in half and ran  out the backdoor like a hornet itself. Then  I sprinted and Oscar caught up and we ran down to Simpson Park. Then we ran up to my house  because we thought it would be safer. Ee hung out for the rest of the day and when my Mum home came and we went to Waitahuna river.

As the 10 minutes was up for eating lunch, I heard screaming people. They were running, pushing, and scrambling like a stampede. There was a swarm of bees flying all around the playground.
“Evacuate!” said the teacher. Everyone got into the class which was so annoying because we missed our lunch break.
Dana Came and fixed it. He left it there for the night and then came back to get it the next day. We watched him for about 15-20 minutes. It was cool to watch.  Dana said there were about 20,000 bees in the tree.

I was sitting on a  table, talking to Olive and Katie and then the bell went. I saw everyone yelling.
“What's going on?” I shouted. No one said anything,  but then I heard
“Bees! bees! bees!” Then I started shouting.
“Ahhh bees!” I ran around everywhere. Mrs May called Dana and after a while he came to get the bees. He got them into the box. He had to cut a branch. It looked like dirt falling . It was amazing to watch .
By Oranje

I was just sitting down when it happened. The bell for lunch had just gone.
All the classes, except for room 1,3 and 4, were at the quadrathon. I was sitting with Katie, Oranje and Olive when suddenly everyone started screaming and shouting,
“Bee! Bee!’’ At first, I thought there was just one bee but then I saw a gigantic swarm of bees flying every way you can imagine.
After that everything turned to custard. Everybody was frantic to get inside, running about. I wasn’t as frantic. I tried to walk to my desk but then someone rushed passed me and slapped my hand. Tears sprang to my eyes. The pain was unbearable. I don’t know who did it but I knew that they really need to slow down. Mrs May came and said that we could do something quietly while she called Dana, Issy’s dad, the beekeeper.
When he came everyone watched him. I didn’t see but I imagine it was like this…
Dana getting out a box and seeing the beehive, seeing the bees swarming around on a tree. He would try and get them out. Dana couldn’t so he would chop off the tree branch. Then he would capture the queen bee and smoke her in the box. Then every other bee would follow her then Dana would smoke.
Then everyone was relieved.

I was outside eating my lunch as normal and then the bell ring to play but then I heard,
“Ahhh! BEES! BEES!” They came out so fast
so I started running to the class like everyone from Room 1 3 and 4. Mrs May said,
“You can have free time or I will put a movie on for you.” Then she called Dana but he did not answer so she called Issy’s Mum and she called him. It took awhile for Dana to come and it took a long time to do it.

I was having lunch with Jess, Hannah and Cassidy on the bank. Then the bell rang to go and play. I was just about to go and play toy horses in the sand pit when someone yelled from the top of their lungs,
“BEES! BEES! BEES! BEES! GO INSIDE QUICK”. Everyone ran inside and I had no idea what was going on. Mrs May said
“Calm down and I will put on a movie for you guys who don't want to watch the bees.” Mrs May tried to ring Dana, the beekeeper , but it didn’t work. Then she rang Izzy's Mum and she rang Dana. He came to school and he got rid of the bees by cutting the branch. The bees were all swarming around the box then the hive fell into it. I was just listening to music with Hannah and Jess when that happened.

I was sitting with Ava, KC, Hannah and Addy under a tree eating our lunch. We were talking about fitness. Then a big swarm of bees came right over to us, like angry cats, dogs and tornados. We all started screaming. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! BEES!” so we all ran into our classrooms room 1,3 and4. I tried to tell at all the kids. I  screamed at them but nothing really happened . Mrs May tried calling my Dad but he didn’t answer so she called my Mum to see if she could get a hold of him . When my Dad got here he had to cut the branch otherwise he couldn’t get the nest. When he cut the branch all the bees fell out like sand. When my Dad caught the bees he said he might keep the bees here overnight just to let them settle in and to get all the bees in the box. Then he took them to a sight in the gorge somewhere.
By Issy

I was eating my lunch happily, then the bell rang so I put my lunchbox away. Suddenly I saw a swarm of bees. I was scared. Most of Room Four was screaming. Mrs May rang Dana to make the bees sleepy. Dana went to get his smoke. I went to the class to do something, so I went on to my chromebook. Dana shook all of the bees into a box and took them away.
By Jess

One hot sunny day I was with my friends Ava, Addy, KC and Issy. We were just casually eating our lunch. when the bell rang. I  walked over to my classroom to put my lunch box away. I saw a big bunch of flies. All of a sudden the kids were screaming and running around and shouting
BEES! BEES!”
I  asked “Why are they screaming?” They said there' was a beehive, but there was actually a swarm of bees. I still popped my lunch box away. It was complete chaos outside and inside. When we were inside I tried to see the angry and wild bees out the window but the wild kids piled over me. It was not a pretty look. I crawled  under the table to escape the chaos then I scurried out again. We had a movie put on for us but not many people watched the movie. Mrs May also let us have free time and we were even allowed on our chromebooks. I went on youtube and listened to songs. While I was listening to songs Dana came and took 20,000 bees away but there is still a few left.
By Hannah

Grace, Livvy, Aria, Emily and I were sitting under a tree, calm and relaxed. We were talking about the play. Suddenly a swarm of bees made a wall...swirling like a tornado. Everybody was shouting,
“BEES!” There was chaos. Everybody was pushing, shoving, and scrambling. When we were inside we watched a movie and listened to music. When Dana cut the hive from the tree Mrs May videod it. We watched it from the class. Grace was scared! Dana put bees into a  box. I will never forget this!!
By Skye

The 10 minutes for eating lunch were up. All of a sudden I heard kids screaming.
I said,  “Why are you screaming?” They said,
“Look over there.” I looked and there was a swarm of bees. The kids were yelling and pushing and screaming.
By Oscar

Grace, Skye Emily, Aria and I were eating lunch, then we ran off we were scared . KC and Ava were the first two to spot it. Skye, Grace and I tried to call out to Mrs May but then she turned up. I heard screaming, running and slamming doors. Before all the crazy stuff happened, it was quiet, but then it was crazy. Then I saw a whole lot of bees. I screamed,  “Ahhhhhhhhhh! BEES!!!!!”
I heard a truck coming up. It was Dana. We all watched Dana tip all the bees into the box it looked like sand because it was far away. We all stayed in the classroom to be safe! It was amazing for some people but others were scared. Some people were about to cry but it was ok because we were safe in the class.

Volunteer work

In Room 4 we have been finding out about the importance of volunteers in our community. We have learned that they are people who help in our community without being paid.
Today we had the opportunity to volunteer to help out both in school and in the community. We spent an hour collecting rubbish this afternoon. We started down at Simpson Park, making sure that there were no bits of fireworks or rubbish left on the fields, and then we moved up to the school grounds and collected rubbish up there. Altogether we found 925 bits of rubbish!!! We were shocked at how many pieces we collected, but we felt very proud to do have done something good, and to have been able to volunteer to help.

Hide and Seek - descriptive writing

In Room 4 we have been working on our descriptive writing. We have been learning to use precise vocabulary to help to paint a picture in the mind of our audience and we have been using conjunctions to join our simple sentences together.
These stories are about us hiding, we hope you enjoy them.
