Cooperative games with Rory

One of our activities was to transport a ball around the gym without using our hands and without letting it touch the floor. Check out all the different methods that we tried to get the ball around.

Fat Man Splat!

This morning we had heaps of fun playing cooperative games with Rory, our sports activator. We played a great team game called 'Fat man splat' where we had to run at the blue mat and splat onto it, trying to move it as far forward as we could. When we got the mat to the end of the gym the whole team had to come together to drag the mat back down to the other end of the gym again. Rory timed us and the team that did it the fastest won. We had so much fun. Check out our videos to see how cool it was

Sports activator

On Friday R4 had our first sports activator this year. We met Olivia who taught us some cricket skills. Alesana and Regan took these photos.
Whack! Ryan hit the ball far far away!

Charlotte hit the ball.

At the end we had a game of non-stop cricket.

Sports Extravaganza

WOW - what a super fun day we all had in Balclutha today at the Sports Extravaganza.  We were in mixed teams with several other Y0-4 students from around South Otago, competing in 12 different challenges throughout the day.  Most activities involved some aspect of teamwork, particularly the relays.  It was great seeing so many children having so much fun, participating actively in a range of different activities.
Venessa, Zoe (Warepa School) and Aaron compete int the team board walking challenge

Basketball with Mitch

Mitch, the sports activator, and his helper Nicole were at school today working with Room 4 on basketball skills.  It was amazing just how many skills we packed into 35 minutes!

Here we are working hard at keeping our eyes UP so that we can see others around us rather than eyes on the ball.

This time we had to get as low as we possibly could while still dribbling the ball.

Time for the ball to be passed between and around our legs...

.... then behind our backs!

Mitch held up coloured discs and we had to keep dribbling our own ball while watching andcalling out the colours of the discs that were being held up.  It was quite a challenge for some.

Individual skills

The trickiest challenge of all was to dribble two basketballs at the same time!!!!First we had to dribble them in time, and then out of time so it sounded like a machine gun.

Game time!  Blake proved too much of a champ winning all three games of 'King of the court'where you had to dribble your own ball while knocking others out of the play area.

We finished off our session by shooting some baskets.  Lots of fun and great physical activity.

Sports Activator - Soccer

As always, we enjoyed Mitch (the Sports Activator) visiting LAS again this week and continuing to teach us soccer skills.  We began with some drills to practise dribbling with the ball, paying particular attention to trying to keep it close to us.

Mitch gave us a variety of activities to work on dribbling, stopping, weaving....

And then it was time to apply our soccer skills into a game situation.
