Otago Rugby Team Visit

On Thursday we had a visit from 5 Otago rugby players.
They showed us some fun games to help our rugby skills.
We had heaps of fun playing cool games that improved our passing and catching skills.

At the end we had a chance to ask them some questions about their rugby career. It was really cool and we loved that they stopped in at Lawrence for a visit!

Student of the Week - Olive

Room 4 continue to work hard on their swimming skills and Olive has been setting the standard for effort and determination. It has been wonderful to see her confidence grow and to see her water skills developing. Keep up the great work Olive!

Shining Star - Grace

Easy Blog Photo
Grace was the first Room 4 student to receive a shining star award in 2016. She has been such a kind and caring community member at Lawrence Area School, and all of the teachers appreciate these qualities. Every day, after swimming, Grace has been helping the younger girls to get dressed and ready. This is not an easy task, but Grace goes in and does it, without being asked, and she does it in such a caring manner. Congratulations Grace - you really are our shining star!

Student of the Week - Lochie

Something new and exciting that we have been doing in Room 4 is writing to penpals. We are writing to a class of children in Dunedin and they are writing back. Lochie has been working really well to share lots of interesting information with his penpal, and writing a very interesting letter. Great work Lochie - your penpal will enjoy your letter.

Southern Steel

Players from the Southern Steel Netball team called in today to take the older girls for a training session. The netballers in Room 4 were not going to miss out though, so they went and watched the session and made sure they got stickers, autographs and photos before the players left!

A special visitor - Harry Harrex

This morning we had a lovely visit from a very special little visitor, Harry Harrex.
He is a Emily & Katie's 9 week old puppy and he is super cute!
Everyone in the class enjoyed a cuddle with Harry, and we all remarked on how soft he is.
We are so glad he popped in to meet us - Thanks to Emily, Katie and Mrs Harrex for bringing him in.

This year Room 4 had 6 students chosen to represent Lawrence Area School at the South Otago athletics day in Balclutha. We had Oranje, Nick, Logan, Lochie and Kade. Luca was also selected, but unfortunately she broke her toe, so was unable to attend.
Congratulations to all of our wee athletes, we are so very proud of you!!!
Logan competed in the 60m, 100m sprints and the relay. He came 5th in his heats.
Nick competed in the 60m and 100m sprints. He won one of his heats and came 5th in the final.
Oranje competed in the 60m and 100m sprints. She ran in the heats.
Lochie competed in the 60m, 100m sprints and the relay. He ran in the heats.
Kade competed in the 60m, 100m sprints and the relay. He won one of his heats and ran in the final.

Student of the week - Logan

It has been really pleasing to see Logan setting such a great example of work ethic in the classroom. He has settled back into routines and is now working really hard to make progress in all areas of his learning. Not only is Logan working hard, but he is also helping others around the classroom, which help their learning too. Way to go Logan - you are a terrific leader!

Collage Self Portraits

This term we have been working on our Self Portraits. This was a new way of doing them and it tool a VERY long time. We took a photo of ourselves and then we collaged over the top of the photo using magazine pages and PVA glue. We had to tear the paper into really small pieces. It took ages, but they look great.
We have also added our 'managing-self goal' to them, so that they are in display in our classroom. We are working on becoming more independent in Room 4, and we have set ourselves a goal that will help us to get there.
We hope you like our art.
