Book Review - George's Marvelous Medicine

This is a story by Roald Dahl.
This is a story about a little boy called George who was left at home one afternoon with his grizzly, grouchy grandma to look after him.
He decided to make a medicine to teach the horrible old woman a lesson. He went around his house collecting up ingredients and putting them into a big saucepan. He added everything he could find.
Then he gave the medicine to his grumpy old granny...the results were hilarious!!!!
This book would be enjoyed by kids aged 5 years and up. Even old teachers like this story. It is lots of fun to read aloud to a class.

"I liked when he added animal pills to the mixture." Hannah, Addy, KC and Ava
"I liked when he added the gin," - Archie and Oranje
"I liked it when George was giving the medicine to his Grandma and how she reacted." - Annabelle, Olive, Chloe, Olivia, Jess, Issy, Austin, Danni, Skye and Oscar.
"I liked it when he was adding all of the ingredients." - Angus
"I liked it when the Grandma went taller and taller and she went through the roof." - Grace and Nick
"I liked it when Grandma got smaller." - Katie and Emily
"I liked it when the hen went massive and his Dad siad it would lay one egg to feed heaps of people," - Aria

Modigliani Self Portraits

We have been studying the artist Modigliani.
He did portraits that had very long necks and big facial features.
He used blocks of bright colour and tried to use contrating colours for the background.
We loved creating our own Modigliani self portraits. We added the blocks fo colour with pastels.

Student of the week - Archie

I room 4 we LOVE to write! And we have been working to write interesting descriptions of things that we see. Archie has really enjoyed the opportunity to stretch his imagination and share his creativity. We love hearing the precise vocabulary choices that he makes, because they make his writing so interesting to read. Keep up the great writing Archie!

Girl on a swing - quick write

When I was at the park, I saw a girl on the swing. She had long, curly black hair. When she swung upwards, she looked like a bird flying. Her eyes sparkled like the stars. I liked her laugh because it was soft and silky like a sheet. Her legs zoomed in the air like the wings of an eagle.
Annabelle.

I am swinging so high that my hair gets caught in the wind and flows smoothly. I have to swing my legs high and hold on tight. I can hear the birds singing with the other animals.
Hannah.

The girl jumps onto the brand new swing. I watch as she flings high in the air. Her feet are gliding through the air. The sound of laughter is flowing through the air. She is going so fast that she is becoming a blur. Suddenly, she comes to a stop.
Archie

I go to the playground, and I go on the swing. As I swing, my shoes sparkle in the sun like one million fairies on my shoes. I laugh and laugh as I swing back and forth. I swing as high as the birds fly, and I look at all the things below.
Olive

"Wheee!" It felt like I was flying. I was so high up I could nearly touch the clouds. It felt amazing! Everyone around me was watching. My hair was flying up like I had just woken up. I couldn't stop laughing.

Student of the Week - Azile

This term we have been lucky enough to be joined by Azile. We have loved having her as a part of our class, and it has been wonderful to see her working hard on her spelling and reading. We are really sad that her time in our class has come to an end, so we wish her well as she returns home to her classmates and teachers. Good-bye Azile.

Student of the Week - Aria

This week we have been creating some beautiful self-portraits. We have studied Modigliani who creates long-necked portraits with big features and blocks of bright colour. Aria took a lot of time and care to get her portrait right, and ended up with a lovely piece of art as a result. Great work Aria.

Frindle - Book Review

Frindle is a wonderful story written by Andrew Clements.
It is the story of 5th Grader Nick Allen, who likes to create a small amount of mischief. His teacher Mrs Granger loves the dictionary and loves words.
Nick decides to challenge how words are made and he creates a new word...watch what happens as this word takes off!
We would recommend this book for children aged 7 and up. This was a terrific story to read aloud in our Year 3 & 4 class.

"I liked it when he got money when he was older." - Oranje and Emily
"I liked when he received the letter from Mrs Granger at the end." Angus
"I thought it was cool when he turned his classroom into Hawaii." - Archie
"I liked the bit where Nick thought about what he has said when he was a baby." Olive
"I liked it when he created the word Frindle" - Annabelle, Ava and Issy
"My favourite part was at the start when he did all the naughty things in the classroom." - Danni
"I liked the part when he gets the package at the end," - Austin
"I liked it when the whole school had to stay at the principal's office for detention," - Nick and Oscar
"I liked it when they held up their pens in the 5th Grade class photo," Jess, Skye, Hannah, KC,  and Chloe
"I liked it when Mr Allen and Bud Lawrence decided that Nick shouldn't know about the money that was going into his account," Katie
"I liked it when all the news people came along and interviewed Nick about the new word," - Grace and Addy
