ANZAC Dedication Ceremony at LAS
On Wednesday 23rd of April art 1pm the whole school assembled out side for a special remembrance ceremony for our ANZAC's. Each school in New Zealand had been sent 30 white crosses and the names of 30 fallen soldiers to place in a prominent position in the school grounds.
We stood in front of the crosses.
The Mayor, Mr Brian Cadogan, placed a poppy on the unmarked cross.
Father Dan said a prayer.
Mr Auld spoke about the importance of remembering each and every man, woman and child who died in the war.
Hannah, our head girl, read the poem.
Constable Robert Wallace said the ode.
Children were then invited to lay their poppies at the foot of the crosses.
It was a very solemn service, but it was very important. It has been 100 years since the ANZAC soldiers landed at Gallipoli, where so many of them were killed in battle. Lest we forget.
