As we prepared for our school camp on the marae we wanted to learn more about what to expect when we visited the marae. We wanted to learn the language for each of the rooms we would be staying and we wanted to learn about some of the special features of the Marae.
Aria, Madison and Ava with their Marae.
We made a wharekai and a wharenui in each diorama.
Archie and Lochie also added a wharehoroi which was a bathroom.
Caitlyn & Luca with their Marae.
We put Kowhaiwhai panels on the roof of our marae.
Floyd, Angus and Kade with their Marae.
We added tukutuku panels to the walls of our wharenui.
Lochie, Logan and Nick with their marae.
We also added whakairo (carvings) to the walls of our wharenui..
We uses manuhiri and Tangatawhenua to practise what happens in a powhiri.
Oranje & Olive's Marae
The wharenui is the big room where everyone sleeps.
Katie, Amelia, Emily and Grace with their Marae
The wharekai is the dining room where everyone eats.
We loved making our marae diorama's and they certainly helped us to learn a lot about the Marae before our visit.
