Clay creations

Room 4 had a fantastic day on Friday, spending most of it in the Art Room, experimenting with clay and then using our new skills to create some superb clay pinch pots, clay tiles and own choice creations.

We begin by experimenting with clay and what we can do with it.  We also experiment with a variety of tools.

Check out some of the finished products!  Hopefully I haven't spoilt some up-and-coming family Christmas gifts from Room 4 students.

Room 4 students experienced great success with creating pinch pots and clay tiles.
We found that the best part of working with clay is that if things aren't turning out how you are hoping, you can just form the clay back into a ball and start again.  Imagine doing that with a painting!!!!

Another massive congratulations to our Year 4 students Rylee, Mac and Lucy who participated recently in the ICAS assessments based out of the University of New South Wales.  It was a great achievement just to be selected to take part in these assessments, along with students from schools throughout New Zealand, Australia and other participating countries.

Today at presentation assembly these students were given their results and presented with their certificates:

Junior School Speech Recital

This year we had 3 Year Three entrants, and 4 Year Four entrants in the Junior School Speech Recital.
Lucie and Rubie both presented their speeches at Presentation Assembly as they were going to be away on the day of the speech recital. Mr Auld came along and judged them as he was to be the judge on recital day as well.

We were extremely proud of all the room 4 children who presented their speeches and we congratulate them on the achievement of being selected.

Dance Night

Anywhere in the World - Olympics Dance by Room 4 -
Click on the title above or photo below to go straight to the dance

This year for our Dance Night Performance we decided to create a dance that reflected the learning we had been doing about the London 2012 Olympic Games. We selected the song 'Anywhere in the World' as our music, as it was already associated with the games and the music was perfect for our dance.

We wanted to incorporate as many different sports into our dance as we could. The sports that we managed to include were running, skipping, rythmic gymnastics, swimming, boxing, basketball, gymnastics and weightlifting.

We opened our dance with the torch bearer, and we concluded our dance with the Olympic Rings. Everybody had input into the dance, particularly the students and it was a lot of fun to create and to dance to.

We had been studying the Olympic Values as we created and practised our dance and those that were largely reflected were Excellence, Determination, Inspiration, Respect, Friendship and Equality. We also believe we lived up to our school Motto which is "Strive to Excel'.
