Today for art we studied the famous Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. We looked at several examples of his portraits and noticed the following features in his style of work:
- long oval faces
- eyes placed near the top of the head
- mouths placed very near the chin
- long necks
- serious looking faces
- no pupils in the eyes (mask-like eyes)
- dull colours
We then attempted to create a portrait of a buddy, inspired by Modigliani and trying to emulate some of his features in our own work. Mrs O gave us chalk pastels to use this time, which we all found to be an interesting art medial. We found that we could smudge the pastels with our fingers and blend colours easily, to provide interesting colours in our work. We also worked on black paper rather than the usual white.
